Changes in the legal industry combined with widespread uncertainty about our economic future make developing effective solutions to keeping jobs, getting enough work, or finding new employment difficult. Many lawyers feel like they just don’t know what to do. However, there is one activity in which you can engage that provides as close to a guarantee as possible that you will reap benefit from your efforts: building your social capital. Social capital consists of the resources – information, ideas, influence, power, mentoring, sponsorship, job leads, assistance, business opportunities, referrals, trust, loyalty, goodwill, cooperation, advice, and emotional support – that reside within the relationships you develop as you create and maintain your personal and business networks. Come join us for this interactive presentation to go beyond networking and walk away having both shared and gained invaluable social capital.

About the Presenter
The Washington, D.C. metropolitan area - with one of the highest concentrations of attorneys in the U.S. - has been Ellen's professional and personal home since 1981. After several years of providing psychological services to women attorneys, it became clear to Ellen that many of these women were not seeking help for the kinds of problems for which psychotherapy is designed. Instead, these bright, high-functioning lawyers were trying to cope with the challenges of working in an extremely demanding profession, the norms of which reflect the lives of men far more than those of women. Ellen founded Lawyers Life Coach LLC to provide professional coaching services to women - and men - attorneys wanting to achieve professional success without sacrificing those things that made their lives meaningful and fulfilling.

Since 1998, Ellen has provided individual and group coaching to attorneys, with an emphasis on enabling women to overcome barriers to advancement and to succeed in their legal careers while protecting their most important personal goals. Ellen coaches women ( and men) attorneys on issues related to career planning and advancement, leadership, work/life conflict, negotiating and implementing flexible schedules, business development, and effective communication, as well as job and career transitions. She has coached hundreds of attorneys throughout the world at varying levels of experience and seniority, from associates to managing partners and general counsel in firms of every size, corporate legal departments, the government and not-for-profit organizations.
